Wyoming animal shelters receive help from IPSSSDR dog race host

JACKSON — With a new route for the 2013 International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) that includes a Montana stage, the animal shelter food donations from race sponsor Pedigree Food for Dogs for this year’s race will include support for the West Yellowstone, Mont., shelter as well as for shelters in participating Wyoming towns, announced Race Director Frank Teasley. Each year Pedigree starts off the new year for an animal shelter in each of the towns on the IPSSSDR route with the donation of a year’s worth of food for one dog. This year’s IPSSSDR, the 18th running of the largest sled dog race in the lower 48 states, is slated for Jan. 25 through Feb. 2, and will include donations to animal shelters in Jackson, Alpine, Pinedale, Lander, Big Piney/Marbleton and Evanston, as well as Paws and Claws Animal Adoption and Care Center in Diamondville.
“The IPSSSSDR is known as the dog-friendly race,” says Teasley, “and as part of title sponsor Pedigree’s commitment to dogs, they donate food to the shelters on the race route. For many of these small shelters, the extra help makes a big difference.” The 2013 IPSSSDR represents the 14th year that Pedigree has offered the food contribution for shelters.
Opening in Jackson on Jan. 25, the IPSSSDR begins in the Jackson Town Square with pre-race festivities, and the official race start with a run through the town’s streets to finish at Snow King with a torchlight parade and fireworks display. The race then continues for another eight days, traveling through parts of Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming — including Kemmerer — before finishing with an awards banquet in Evanston on Feb. 2.
